Please note updates to our grant guidelines below.

The Wolf Kahn Foundation grants program continues Wolf Kahn’s commitment to fellow artists, the environment and its effect on creative work, and to the vitality of arts and educational organizations that advance artists’ careers and educate youth and the public. Guided by our mission, the Foundation supports projects that reflect the practices that shaped Wolf Kahn’s life and work: observation, experimentation, and respect for the work of other artists.

Recent successful proposals include support for exhibitions, publications, residencies, and community or museum-based arts education programs, with an emphasis on projects that express or advance social justice or environmental awareness through the arts. General operating support for organizations whose programming aligns with these priorities and the Foundation’s mission will also be considered.

Eligible organizations are invited to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI). After a review, the Foundation will invite applications from those who best meet the criteria. Grants are usually in the range of $5,000 to $15,000.

More information about the Foundation’s mission can be found here.

Application Process and Timeline

The next deadline for Letters of Inquiry is January 12, 2024. The LOI application form will open on December 1, 2023 via Submittable. The LOI form will ask:

  • What does your organization propose and why? If applying for general operating support, please include clear examples of how the programming your organization provides aligns with the Wolf Kahn Foundation’s mission and areas of funding.*
  • When would the support requested need to begin? Those invited to apply will receive a decision by the first week in May 2024.
  • Please include a copy of your IRS letter of tax-exemption and a link to your website.

    *Recommended response length is approximately 500-600 words.

After submitting a LOI, selected organizations will be invited to apply via Submittable (Deadline: March 8, 2024). The application will ask:

  • What is the goal for the grant requested? What needs will the grant address? If applying for general operating support, please include clear examples of how the programming your organization provides aligns with the Wolf Kahn Foundation’s mission and areas of funding.*
  • How does your organization pursue diversity, equity, and inclusion? What has been successful in achieving the results you seek?*
  • How will your organization carry out the purpose of the grant?*
  • How will you measure the effectiveness of this grant/project?*
  • Please submit a budget for your organization and for the proposed project.

    *Recommended response length for each question is approximately 250 words.

LOIs and applications will be reviewed by the Foundation Grants Committee. The review process will consider:

  • The degree to which the project aligns with the Foundation’s mission and areas of funding;
  • The degree that the grant will have an impact on the organization;
  • The organization’s ability to carry out its stated purpose;
  • The organization’s demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • The organization’s previous affiliation with Wolf Kahn or the Wolf Kahn | Emily Mason Foundation.

Applicants will be notified whether their proposals are accepted by the first week in May 2024. A final report is due within one year of the grant award date.
